River outings

-

EK Angling Club have been very busy recently with a number of club outings and competitions.

First up was the outing to the River Clyde. Although only six members took part, and with the rive rat Abing ton being a little on the low side, everyone managed to connect with fish up to 3/4 lbs.

This was followed by the fly outing to a new venue for the club, Howwood Trout Fishery.

A fine 3lb 10oz fish fell to a buzzer off the dam wall and several brown trout were hooked and returned.

At the interval, Jim McCaig was leading with four but dry fly and yellow owl in particular was getting a mention. At the end of the day Jim McKin lay pipped McCaig to first place with six fish.

On the competition front McKinlay narrowly missed out on qualifying for the Scottish National Championship final but made up for it with a qualification to the Carron Masters on August 21.

Meanwhile, the club’s B team – Brendan McWilliams, Gil Farid and Craig McKean – were out in heat 11 of the Scottish Club Championship at the Lake of Menteith.

Brendan managed two, Gill caught three on Candy Fabs and Craig had five to dry flies. But 10 in total was not going to be enough and so it proved with Neilston winning with 23.

The club’s next outing will be to another new venue for the club, Glencorse, on August 28.
