Rural crime clampdown

- Mark Pirie

A Rural Crime Awareness Day is being help in Glassford on August 9.

A spokeswoman for the Police said the Lanarkshire Safer Communities Department have recently been working with partner agencies, including NFU Mutual and Scottish Fire and Rescue with the aim of improving farm safety and security.

She added: “A number of officers have attended a course at the Police College and are now qualified specialists in identifying stolen farm and plant machinery.

“Your Safer Communities Officers for Lanark and Strathaven have attended Lanark implement sale, to look for stolen goods and to raise awareness of the recent improvements in the training of officers in searching for CESAR and SELECTAMARK tagged property.

“Stalls have been set up at the market where officers have demonstrated the technology and given general security advice to farmers on the day.

“Your local Safer Communities Officer is available to provide a farm security review and this review consists of a walk round your property whereby security improvements will be identified.

“The security reviews which have been carried out have been well received, as the advice is simple, and improvements can be made when it is convenient to the farmer.

“If you are interestedin a farm security review please contact PC LauraTaylor at East Kilbride Police Office via 101.”
