Tackling the fly-tippers
Dear Editor
I can understand people from across our town recently being outraged by those irresponsible people who think that fly-tipping is acceptable.
As a local councillor, I deal with constituents complaints about this issue several times a week, from concerned people who care about their area and I would add it is not confined to any one specific area, but happens everywhere.
It’s not only those individuals who I class as the `Manky Mob` who don’t bother to use their yearly free uplift, but just fly-tip, but those individuals who request their free uplift, are then told to put their items out on the street on a specific day, but ignore this and place their items on the street days before they will be uplifted, where on many occasions it is then kicked up and down the street by children, and also foxes and birds attack bin bags making the area a mess.
I wonder if any of these anti-social people are aware that the fine for fly-tipping has now quite rightly been raised from £50 to £200, something I fully support and indeed have provided assistance to the appropriate department to assist in several prosecutions.
Each of us has a responsibility to look after our environment, by reporting fly-tipping to the council, and if you live within the EK South Area, you can also do this to myself where I will be happy to visit and deal with it in confidence. I can be contacted by my constituents on 07748114555 or at archie.buchanan@southlanarkshire.gov.uk
