With BHS set to close ... will you miss it?
Mourning store loss
Staff at East Kilbride BHS received the devastating news last week that a date has been set for the store’s closure.
After it escaped the first round of closures there had been hopes a buyer would be found.
However, all remaining stores, including East Kilbride, will close on August 20.
The News took to the streets to gauge the reaction of East Kilbride shoppers to the latest high street brand to fall.
Lynsey Neil (32) was sad to see the store go, telling the News: “It’s another good option that is gone.
“For kids’ clothes or a treat it was always really good.”
Liz Baxter (54), from The Murray, said she was a regular shopper in the store: “It was one of the shops we would go in to all the time. The staff were always nice and the clothes were good quality.
“It’s a real shame for the staff in there. It’s not their fault that all this is happening.”
May Donlain (57), who also added she shopped there regularly, felt it would be missed. “It’s been there for so long,” said May. “It will be a big loss for shoppers in EK.” “I just ordered some stuff online before it goes.”
Karen Bruce (48) from Lindsayfield also paid tribute to the doomed shop, adding: “They have a great homeware section, and have a bit of everything.
“It’s a great mix of stuff - I can’t understand what has happened. It’s so sad.”
