Hospice fundraisers lookfor donations

-

Fundraisers are looking for folk in East Kilbride and local businesses to get behind them to raise as much cash as possible for the Kilbryde and St Andrew’s Hospices.

The John Wright Sports Centre fundraising team are holding a cheese and wine mock auction later in the year and are looking for businesses to make donations which can then be auctioned off.

Kilbryde Hospice is South Lanarkshire’s first in-patient hospice which cost £4million to build.

It consists of a purpose-built 10bed palliative care hospice in the grounds of Hairmyres Hospital.

Currently day services are provided but once fully operational the hospice will cost around £2.5million a year to run.

One of the fundraisers, Janie Carter, said: “Kilbryde Hospice services are free to the individuals, their families and carers who need our support.

“It currently receives some NHS funding towards day hospice services but mainly relies on the generous support of the local public who bring in the funds required to keep the vital service running.”

Meanwhile, St Andrew’s Hospice, which is for patients across Lanarkshire, provides specialist palliative care services, with running costs also above £4million per year.

If any businesses can donate items for the mock auction on Saturday, November 12 in the East Kilbride Indoor Bowling Club contact Janie on 01355 242307/07889522857 or Marie Cameron on 01355 237731.
