Lyons helps maintain winning run

-

East Kilbride racked up yet another big league win on Saturday as they beat Dumfries by 109 runs.

The Torrance House side kept the league title race alive with the victory as they moved up to second spot in the Western District Premier Division.

EK did not get off to a brilliant start, losing their first wicket for nine runs. Luckily opening batsmen Craig Smith and Gavin Meikle repaired the staggered start with a smooth 42 run partnership.

Ross Lyons, Petrus Coetzee and Umair Saeed all provided great fire power as EK posted a very impressive 218-9.

After tea it was time for the bowlers to back up their batsmen’s impressive performance and drive EK home.

The opening bowlers did not make an immediate breakthrough but got two quick wickets in the eighth and ninth overs with Umair Khan(1-22) grabbing the first scalp and Coetzee(1-20) the second.

Dumfries were in a comfortable position when the drinks break arrived on 92-3, but the scene that unfolded after drinks was rather spectacular.

With Lyons and Iqbal causing havoc with the ball, Dumfries suffered a massive collapse as they lost seven wickets for 17 runs.

In the 27th over Lyons got two wickets in two deliveries to really put EK in cruise control.

And soon enough Dumfries were bowled out for 109 runs.

This Saturday East Kilbride, who lost to Grange in the last four of the national finals on Sunday, host Drumpellier.
