EKYM tourney kicks off

It was a good weekend for local sides in the East Kilbride YM pre-season tournament as four of the EK teams involved progressed to the semi-finals.

The annual tournament got underway on Saturday and EKYM’s Caledonian League team, a YM Select side, EKFC Amateurs and Dynamo EK all progressed to the last four.

EKYM’s Caledonian League side kicked things off with a 7-3 victory over local rivals Claremont Amateurs.

Craig Tocher and Anthony Penman bagged a brace, while Paul McLean, Cammy McCulloch and Jordan Fletcher also got on the scoresheet for the host side.

In the other quarter final in this section Dynamo EK defeated EKRR 3-1 with Martin McVey netting a hat-rick.

YM’s select side, comprising players from the Scottish Amateur League and Greater Glasgow League teams, defeated Rutherglen Amateurs 3 -2.

Connor McCann, Thomas McCallum and Jack Brown scored for YM.

In the other tie in that section EKFC Amateurs went 4-1 up at half time against Possil YM and eventually ran out 5-4 winners .

Doubles from Johnny Diack and McEwan were followed up by a solitary strike from David Jamieson.

The semi-finals will be played this midweek withYM’s Caley team facing Dynamo EK and EKFC Amateurs taking on the YM Select.

The winners of these ties will contest the final on Sunday. Kick-off at Ballerup will be 2pm.

• Meanwhile, in other YM news the

club’s 35s team have reached the semi finals of the Centre Regions 35s Scottish Cup following an excellent 4-2 quarter final victory at Linlithgow on Friday evening.

The goalscorer­s for YM were Ian Cruickshan­k (2), Derek Arthur and Willie Dawson.
