Straight As for star pupils

-

Among the many pupils who shone were those bright sparks from East Kilbride who secured straight As.

This included 16-yearold Calderglen pupils Marcus Boyd and Katrina Livingstone.

Marcus, from St Leonards, aced the exams with five As at Higher level.

He is aiming high and wants to study medicine after completing sixth year.

Marcus told the News: “I was really delighted to get five As.

“I really needed five As in one sitting to take the pressure off next year as medicine is a pretty tough course to get into.

“The whole family was really proud when I got the text with the results.”

Meanwhile, Katrina, also from Stewartfield, who is going into sixth year said: “I am planning to study chemical engineering at either Strathclyde or Edinburgh University.

“To make this possible I really needed four As at Higher in fifth year.

“I was secretly hoping for five though, so I was over the moon when the results came in – and my dad even shed a few tears.”

And St Andrew’s and St Bride’s also had its fair share of straight A students.

It was a case of not so unlucky 13 for the Hanlon household.

Two clever sisters Olivia (16) and Rebecca (17) Hanlon achieved a total of 13 A grade passes in their National 5 and Higher results.

Olivia achieved her A passes in National 5 accounting, chemistry, English, history, mathematics, music, physics, and Spanish.

Rebecca obtained her Higher A passes in chemistry, English, history, mathematics and Spanish.

Both girls and their families are quite rightly over the moon and off to celebrate their success.
