Mum Pauline

-

Now Anna is at nursery, she doesn’t quite understand why other children don’t have an insulin pump, but the nursery staff have all been trained to deal with the issues that might come up.

Pauline added: “For my husband and me, the kids come first and although I loved my job and had trained hard for it, it was just too difficult. I had to give it up. But I still needed to do something.

“I tried spray tanning first, but that didn’t work! I’m quite crafty so I had the idea of making things out of wood.

“We bought an engraving machine and learnt everything from scratch. Now I’m making keyrings, signs, plaques and even Christmas decorations.”

Each keyring is handmade and can be individually personalised with a name, slogan and design including hearts or stars. Some people have even requested an emergency number on the back.

“I made a keyring for Anna first”, said Pauline.

“It has her name, stars and a contact number in case of emergencies. Beth has one too with her own song lyrics on it. Then other people starting asking for them and word is now spreading.”

Sold via Facebook, Pauline will also be taking orders at the JDRF One Walk which is taking place at Strathclyde Country Park on September 11.

And the 5k challenge will be a family affair with Pauline, her husband Bryan (34), 12-year-old Beth and Anna taking part, while Anna’s grandparents, Christine and John Beattie, man Pauline’s handcrafted goods stall.

The fundraiser aims to raise £35,000 for JDRF.
