Womanplead­snot guiltytoch­airattack

A woman has denied stealing a chair from a bar and trying to hit a man with it in East Kilbride town centre.

Wendy McGill, of Woodlea Drive, Hamilton, pleaded not guilty to a charge of stealing the chair from the Skye Bar in Cornwall Street on Sunday, July 31.

The 29-year-old also denied a charge of assault at the Plaza in East Kilbride on the same date by repeatedly attempting to strike a man on the body with a chair there.

Co-accused Lorraine Paterson (31) of Comrie Crescent, in Hamilton, denied two charges of assault at the Plaza in East Kilbride.

She is alleged to have repeatedly punched and kicked two men on the body.

McGill and Paterson denied a charge of stealing meat from M&S in the Plaza last Sunday.

A third accused, 38-yearold Paul Kyle of Strathyre Road, Blantyre, however admitted this charge.

Paterson further denied a charge of behaving in a threatenin­g and abusive manner by repeatedly shouting and swearing at Brouster Gate in East Kilbride on July 31, uttering offensive remarks and making threatenin­g gestures towards others there.

McGill denied a similar charge by repeatedly shouting, swearing and uttering offensive remarks at others in Brouster Gate on the same date.

She also pleaded not guilty to a charge of possessing diazepam at Hamilton Police office on the same date.

At Hamilton Sheriff Court on Monday, Sheriff Vincent Smith deferred sentence on Kyle until August 22. Bail was granted meantime.

He set an intermedia­te diet for McGill and Paterson for the same date and a trial for September 2.

Sheriff Smith refused McGill and Paterson bail and they were detained in custody meantime.
