Denies drink drive charge

- Nicola Findlay

A driver has denied being nearly six times the legal drink drive limit while behind the wheel.

Ian McTaggart (46) pled not guilty to having 129 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath on June 29 on Strathaven’s Hamilton Road.

He went on to deny driving without insurance or a valid MOT on the same date.

McTaggart, of Shettleston in Glasgow, did admit failing to appear at court on July 14 and sentence was deferred until August 26.

Meanwhile, a trial was set for September 28 on the first charges with an interim hearing due to take place on August 29. An East Kilbride restaurant has been targeted by thieves for the second time in the space of a few weeks.

And now police are appealing for witnesses to the attempted break-ins at Di Maggios in the Kelvin.

The latest robbery attempt took place on Saturday into Sunday between 11.40pm and 7am.

The culprits attempted to force open the fire escape door in an attempt to steal items.

They failed to gain entry but police say £200 worth of damage was caused to the fire door.

A description has been released of a man police say tried to break into the premises at 11.15pm on August 5.

Once again, a failed attempt was made to force open the fire door with a pole or similar implement.

Police have described the culprit as 5ft 10ins, of a medium build with his face covered and wearing all black with a yellow hi-vis vest.

Anyone who witnessed anything suspicious in the area should contact East Kilbride police on 101.
