Waspscan stingCelticin BetfredCup

- Paul Thomson

Neil Parry insists Alloa have what it takes to stun Celtic in the Betfred Cup quarter-finals next month after beating two Premiership sides in the competition already this season.

The Wasps goalkeeper, from St Leonards, was thrilled to be drawn away to Brendan Rodgers’side in last Wednesday’s draw and reckons it was just reward for dumping out the holders Ross County in the group stage and then sending Inverness crashing in the last 16.

Parry’s part-timers are the form team in the country right now with a 100 per cent record in all competitions, scoring 15 goals in six games and conceding just twice.

And he believes the League One side are capable of humbling the Hoops at Parkhead on September 20.

Tax-man Parry, who has five clean sheets in six games, said:“The run we’ve been on has been excellent and this is the draw we were looking for.

“We’ve knocked out the holders and then beat Inverness to get here, so we couldn’t have asked for a better start to the season.

“People wrote us off in those games, so you never know what will happen with Celtic.

“There’s no point going into the game thinking you are going to lose we want to go there and perform something special.

“Shocks happen in the cup competitions. They’re one-off games and we will go to Parkhead believing we can cause one.

“Obviously it’s another step up and we will need Celtic to have a bit of an off-day, but you’ve got to believe you can win the game. “The boys have been fantastic so far. “But we don’t just want to have a great start, we want to have a great season.”

The former Airdrie and Albion Rovers shot-stopper is delighted with the way Jack Ross’men have started their campaign and believes his gaffer won’t stray from their positive approach when they take on the Scottish champions.

He added:“I don’t think we’ll change much from the way we’ve been playing.

“The gaffer won’t have us sitting in and defending the whole game.

“He is all about being brave on the ball and using the wings well, so I’m sure we will go to Parkhead with the attitude that we will try and play football.

“There’s no point camping ourselves in our own 18-yard box.

“Everyone is saying I’ll be really busy, but I’m looking forward to it.

“I’ve been lucky enough to play Rangers a few times when I was at Queen’s Park and Albion Rovers, but this is the first time I’ll get to play Celtic, so it will be a special game.”
