Strachan saga over as Kilby agree deal

-

East Kilbride FC completed the controversial signing of midfielder Adam Strachan last week.

The 29-year-old, who has served time behind bars, had been on trial with the club since the start of July and talks to sign him stalled earlier this week with Strachan refusing to sign the contract on offer.

However, he has now committed his future to the Lowland League side.

Last week, the former Partick Thistle and Ross County man was issued with an ultimatum by Kilby boss Martin Lauchlan, who told him to ‘take it or leave it’ after growing frustrated with the player.

Strachan was left out of the squad for Kilby’s 3-0 win over Dalbeattie on Wednesday night, but he accepted the terms on offer on Friday and made his official debut in East Kilbride’s 6-1 win over Gretna in the East of Scotland Cup 24 hours later.

He is Lauchlan’s ninth summer signing and the K-Park gaffer told the News: “I’m delighted to finally get the deal tied up.

“Adam has been a good professional and has shown what a good footballer he is.

“He’s made mistakes in the past and, hopefully, I have given him the chance to kick-start his

football career. He will add quality, pace, delivery and experience having played in every division in Scotland.

“Having come through the ranks at Partick, just like me, I’m more than happy to give him this opportunity. However, he knows if he steps out of line it will be the end for him at EK.

“I’m a positive person and a football manager and I’m not one to judge anybody, so I believe Adam will be a top player for Kilby.

“For all the negative press he’s had over the years, I have never heard anyone doubting Adam’s footballing ability.

“If he ever needs me for any advice I’m here for him.”
