Looking back on their school days
School’s back and new starts throughout the town are enjoying their days in P1.
With that in mind, the News asked locals to take a look back on their first day at school.
William Miller (27), from Greenhills, remembers his time at school fondly - but admits it took a bit of getting used to: “I liked Primary and Secondary. But on my first day I kept falling asleep. My teacher, who ended up being really nice, came over to wake me up.
“I can look back on it now and laugh - but she wasn’t happy,” he said.
Rebekah Cunningham (22), from Greenhills, said: “I always enjoyed school. I guess I maybe think that now I’ve grown up a bit now - but I have good memories.””
EK shopper Barry Walker (66) admits he didn’t love school, but has seen his granddaughter enjoy her early days at school.
He said: “For me it wasn’t really something I enjoyed - and it feels so long ago now. But my granddaughter seems to be enjoying it so far and I’m happy with that.
“She has just started P1 - and it’s all changed from when I was at school.”
Helen Walker (66) also feels like times have changed since she started, adding: “I loved school, but it’s completely different now.
“The first day seems like a big deal to parents and something special and it wasn’t really like that when I started.”
