Invitation to woodland plan unveiling

- Louise Reilly

East Kilbride Community Trust are set to unveil their proposals for a community woodland at Peel Park.

And everyone can see for themselves the ambitious proposals to transform the neglected area into an attractive and accessible greenspace.

A public consultation event will be held at K-Park Training Academy in Calderglen Country Park, tomorrow (Thursday, August 25), between 2pm and 8pm and all are welcome to go along to see the plans and speak with members of theTrust.

EKCT’s newly appointed community woodland officer, Gail Ferguson, will be available to guide visitors through the display materials, answer questions and listen to comments on the project.

A representative from Forestry Commission Scotland, who are supporting the project, will also be present.

Gail said:“The feedback gained through this public consultation will help to inform our proposals for managing the woodland and improving access through it, as well as delivering a community engagement programme.”

EKCT are proposing to create an area of outstanding natural beauty with leisure and recreation areas as well as facilities for educational programmes.

Chief executive of the Trust, Monique McAdams, said:“We hope to build a safer, stronger and happier community by encouraging people in the local area to help care for this neglected outdoor space, and to make greater use of it for health and well being purposes.

“The woodland would also be used to provide programmes of formal and informal education, including a forest school, and it is hoped that the site will become a valued resource by the community.”
