Laughs aplenty Down Under

Comedy sequel heads for Oz

- Andrea O’Neill

EK Rep Theatre kick off their new season with an hilarious romp taking the main protagonists Down Under.

Fast-paced comedy Ladies Down Under is a heartwarming sequel to the smash hit Ladies Day where the likely lasses from the Hull fish docks won a fortune on the races at Royal Ascot.

Now Pearl, Jan, Shelley and Linda are celebrating with the trip of a lifetime to the land of Oz.

It’s a trip that’s full of adventure, surprises and life-changing events for all of them.

While Shelley dreams of luxury and glamour, the rest of the gang decide to go native and camp out under the stars at Uluru. But Shelley soon discovers there is more on offer than posh hotels, stunning beaches and sun-kissed surfers.

Meanwhile, Pearl finds that she’s got a mountain of her own to climb.

This is a play which will have audiences rolling in the aisles but also contains some touching moments.

With open sets, up-to-date projection and an atmospheric soundscape created by Ally Hill, various Australian backdrops will be incorporated into the show.

This unmissable night will be a real treat in modern theatre techniques showing this amateur theatre group remains at the top of its game.

On the night the Rep will be collecting funds for Breast Cancer Care Scotland.

Pearl, one of the characters in Ladies Down Under, discovers she has breast cancer so the committee thought it would be a nice gesture to take donations for the charity.

Amanda Whittington’s hilarious production opens at East Kilbride Village Theatre on Wednesday, August 31 and runs until Saturday, September 3. Curtain up 7.30pm.

Tickets cost £8.50 and £6.50 concessions. Season tickets can be purchased for £25. Season tickets grant admisssion to five plays plus May’s RepFest. Ask at the Box Office for more details for the 2016/2017 season. To book contact 01355 248669/261000.

EK Rep’s next production will be Liz Lochhead’s Good Things.
