An inspirational Calderwood gran courageously took to the catwalk to raise awareness of breast cancer.

Cancer survivor Colette Jameson was among 21 brave women and one man who have been diagnosed with the disease to strut their stuff at Breast Cancer Care Scotland’s annual fashion show on Thursday. The afternoon show at Glasgow’s Radisson Blu hotel was hosted by newsreader Jackie Bird, with TV presenter Cat Cubie taking over in the evening. G4 singer Jonathan Ansell, comedian Andy Cameron and DJ Adrian Coll also took to the stage. And Rangers players Martyn Waghorn, Matt Gilks, Jordan Rossiter, Lee Hodson and Barrie McKay escorted the models down the catwalk in the final scene of the evening show. But the stars of the event were the brave models, who ranged in age from 28 to 80. Colette, a 52-year-old Centre One worker, braved the limelight to show that women can still look and feel good after diagnosis and treatment. The mum-of-two, who is now six years cancer-free, was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2010 while on holiday in Fuerteventura. She found a lump on her right breast while applying sun tan lotion and had to undergo a lumpectomy. Colette had her lymph nodes removed and was forced to endure 18 weeks of chemotherapy at Hairmyres Hospital followed by seven weeks of daily radiotherapy at the Beatson. A woman who has always taken great pride in her appearance, Colette was devastated after having to suffer the indignity of losing her hair.

For that reason, she couldn’t wait to be given a glamorous makeover before hitting the runway.

Colette told the News: “Taking part in the show this year was wonderful to look forward to and something I would never have had the confidence to do before.

“I couldn’t wait to step on to the catwalk in front of everyone, including my family and friends, who have supported me every step of the way.

“I was in four scenes — Tuti-Frutti, Pink to Make the Boys Wink, Tartan Punk and the Grand Finale.

“The show was fantastic, emotional and amazing.”

Colette was transformed from head to toe, wearing a range of beautiful outfits from House of Fraser, professionally-styled by Ian Tod.

And wedding boutique Joyce Young Collections created tailored occasion gowns for the finale.

Models also had their hair styled by Sassoon Salons with celebrity make-up artist Sara Hill and her team will be adding the finishing touches.

Breast Cancer Care Scotland head Nicolas White said the charity’s biggest fundraiser was a fitting way to mark Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October.
