Olympia medal haul

-

The club is proud to have collected a whopping 52 medals this year at club competitions throughout the UK, 16 taking first place, 18 scooping second place and 18 coming third.

Last month three club members showed off their skills at the NISA IJS Sheffield.

Ava McLean skated into third place in the basic novice A ladies, Emily Spratt made her way to first place in the basic novice B competition and Victoria McMahon took first place in the junior ladies.

And seven of the club’s young skaters are thrilled to have been selected to train with the GB squad.

Eight-year-old Lauren Fleming, Eloise McNulty (11), Mia Gallacher (12) Ava McLean (12) and nine-year-old Mia Johnstone are in the Great Britain development squad.

And Emily Spratt (14) and Victoria McMahon (16) have both been selected for the national talent squad.

To top off the club’s success, coaches Leanne Collins and Lorraine Titi were awarded the Joyce Taylor Award for services to coaching and the young coach of the year award respectively.

Committee member Gillian Little told the News: “Having the chance to compete at regional competitions internationally is a very exciting opportunity for our girls.

“It is also very special for two coaches from the same club to be awarded within the same year but particularly important for our coaches to be rewarded during such a tough year for the club.

“The girls have been travelling to Edinburgh, Kilmarnock, Stevenson, Ayr and Glasgow before school, after school and at weekends in order to fit in training as regularly as possible.

“We are hoping to return to our newly refurbished rink in November and are looking forward to continuing to work hard and grow our club with continued success.”
