Club nominated for award
A local football club have been nominated for the Sunday Mail and Sportscotland Scottish Sports Awards.
East Kilbride FC, formed in 2010, have been put forward in the local club category, which will recognise the best amateur sports clubs who have made a real contribution to everyday life in the community.
The club have more than 600 players from six years of age in the Fun 4s set-up, through seven-a-side and all age groups in the Scottish Youth Football Association. Their senior team also faced Celtic in last season’s Scottish Cup round of 16.
Based at K-Park, EKFC also operate a special needs Sunday Club where children with learning difficulties and their parents can enjoy games and activities.
They also have a large community presence and support many local charities, recently donating £1500 to the EK and District Dementia Carers group. As well as this Kilby have a local and international outreach programme which uses can and clothes recycling to generate funds for local charities and the EKFC Football Academy in Daranka, Africa. Although EKFC have been nominated, the shortlist for the glittering ceremony at the Glasgow City Hotel on December 1 is yet to be revealed and there is still time to nominate your club or local sports heroes.
