Under the spell of the great outdoors

-

Calling all little den-builders and bug-hunters – a new free outdoor toddler group wants to hear from you.

SPELL (Support Play and Early Learning in Lanarkshire) is running a Little Hedgehogs Toddler Group at Langlands Moss Nature reserve from October 3.

SPELL’s operations manager Vicky Willmott explains: “Little Hedgehogs aims to encourage and build confidence in outdoor active play and exploration in all weathers, for both the toddlers and their parents/carers.

“Fully qualified forest school leader Christine Smith will be running the activities, which include relaxing in a hammock, finding bugs and beasties, making dens, trying outdoor crafts, playing games, and even cooking a marshmallow or toast over a camp fire.

“It’s great fun, and a really good opportunity to learn new skills and meet new friends.”

The sessions, which will run for six weeks in the initial pilot project, are aimed at children between two and five years but younger siblings are welcome, and the site is suitable for pushchairs and prams.

The sessions are free but a £10 deposit per family group will be taken at the time of booking to secure your place, and this will be refunded at the end of the block, subject to attendance at the majority of sessions.

For more information on the sessions and to book a place please contact SPELL on 01698 768933/768944 or email spell.org@ btopenworld.com.
