Ramblers having a high old time

-

Duncanrig Ramblers headed to Dumfries and Galloway to enjoy the great outdoors on Saturday.

The alternate walk started at Watermeetings and followed the path which leads to the Daer Reservoir before heading into the Watermeetings Forest.

After a few miles the walkers crossed the Potrail Water and then followed a path running parallel to the A702 trunk road on the line of the old Roman road.

They then continued on the old road climbing up to the high point of the walk between Well Hill and Durisdeer Hill and then followed the old Coach or Well road which descended down between the rolling hills into the lovely village of Durisdeer where the coach was waiting.

Meanwhile the high walkers had a circular walk around Durisdeer, first climbing to the summit of Scaw’d Law.

From here they were on their way to the top of a hill named Little Scaw’d Law and then onto Durisdeer Hill.

After leaving Durisdeer Hill, the ramblers had a steep descent down to the old Roman and coach road crossing over Kirk Burn and then another climb up to the top of Well Hill before a gradual descent before the final ascent to Back Hill.

The group then completed the circle returning to the coach in Durisdeer, from where it was on to the social hour in Thornhill.

The club outing on October 9 will take the ramblers to Aberfeldy and bookings will be taken on October 3.
