Politicians get a kick out of scouting about
Night to remember
East Kilbride Scouts got stuck into some taekwondo and welcomed some visitors to a fun-filled evening.
Local MSP Linda Fabiani and Councillor John Anderson met with members from the 6th East Kilbride Scout Group recently.
They helped to make firelighters and tried some taekwondo as well as taking part in a ‘question time’ session.
The group were delighted to have Linda and John along and to have them take part in their exciting activities.
It also gave the politicians a chance to see how much of an impact Scouting has had on many young people’s lives.
This year is the 100th anniversary of Cub Scouting which means 100 years of fun, friendship and life changing adventure.
Scout leader John Anderson said: “It was wonderful to have Linda and John join in and see the experiences the young people get out of Scouting.
“Scouting can completely change young people’s lives and offers them the chance to experience so much that they might not get to anywhere else.
Cub, Elsie Hannay, said: “It was cool to meet Linda Fabiani MSP and Councillor John Anderson and see them get involved in the taekwondo.
“Coming to Cubs is so much fun, you get to see your friends, play games and this year has been extra exciting as it’s our 100th anniversary.”
Linda Fabiani MSP also enjoyed her visit to the group.
She said: “I had a smashing time – from the session with Elite Martial Arts Academy, through learning how to make firelighters and then a fascinating discussion with the seniors.
“I certainly learned a lot from my visit and hope to visit again. Scouts Scotland are a great organisation for all age groups.”
Councillor John Anderson added: “I enjoyed being able to take part in the special activities organised for the evening. This showed the Beavers, Cubs, Scouts and Explorers is all about fun, friendship and young people having an adventurous time supported by caring pro-active leaders. I would like to thank all those involved for a most enjoyable and memorable time together enjoying all the games and activities.”
