Under-16s perform well but lose out

-

Saturday proved a frustrating day for East Kilbride Rugby Club’s junior sides as they lost to Greenock.

While the under-16s were unable to record a positive result they were entitled to feel content with many aspects of their 38-17 defeat, particularly as numbers are tight at the moment due to injuries.

Evan Martin, Matthew Brown and Matthew Fletcher were all on the scoresheet for EK.

The Under-15s ran their Greenock counterparts closer, coming up short 41-31.

Ewan Stirling opened the scoring when he won the race to Rory Blackwood’s kick ahead before Cameron Rennie took centre stage with four tries. Unfortunately for EK, two late Greenock tries saw them victorious.

Finally, the under-13 coaches were delighted to find themselves with 15 players to pick from with debutants Billy Curl and Aiden Harkin boosting the numbers.

While the increased resource helped the side perform better than in previous weeks they followed a familiar pattern as they were defeated by a strong and pacy Greenock outfit.

Ruaridh Patrick scored first for East Kilbride, running in from 50 metres to see them 12-7 down at half-time.

Ryan Moghrabi got the second following good work from Callum Ferrie and Adam Ross.

Ri Murphy added a third but Greenock’s ability to score from distance following East Kilbride mistakes left them 34-19 to the good, completing a rather disappointing day for the Torrance House youngsters.
