Semi-finalists in SpectacleWearer of theYear contest Councilaim tofind40 adoptive families
Two women from East Kilbride have certainly got specs appeal.
Erynn Gray (35) from St Leonards and Yvonne Creevy (65) of Newlandsmuir, made it as far as the semi-finals of the renowned Specsavers’ Spectacle Wearer of the Year Awards.
Mum-of-three Erynn entered the competition online after her daughter took a picture of her to update her Facebook profile image.
And after seeing the advert online she decided to use the new picture for her entry.
Thrilled and surprised to find out she had made it to the semifinals of the competition, Erynn said: “I’ve worn my glasses for more than 20 years and they’re now a part of who I am.
“I really enjoy experimenting with different styles of frames and I would encourage everyone to wear their glasses with pride.”
Yvonne, who entered the competition for the second year running, was also delighted to Looking good have made it to the semi-final.
She said: “Making it through to this stage of the competition is a huge achievement.
“Winning the competition would have been fantastic but I’m thrilled with the voucher for a new pair of frames.”
The duo were welcomed to the East Kilbride store by manager Christine Robertson, who presented them both with a certificate and £150 gift voucher.
Christine said: “With two semi-finalists from the area, it’s clear to see that we have plenty of stylish spec wearers in East Kilbride.
“We were delighted to welcome both Erynn and Yvonne to the store to present them with their voucher and bubbly.”
Now in its 21st year, the competition raises valuable funds for anti-bullying charity Kidscape, which has totalled £300,000 to date. During National Adoption week (October 17 - 23) South Lanarkshire Council are highlighting their Find 40 Families campaign.
These families are being sought across South Lanarkshire to adopt children in the area who can no longer live with their birth families.
The council hope to place 40 children in loving homes in the next 12 months.
Councillor Lynsey Hamilton, depute chairwoman of social work resources and member of the South Lanarkshire Fostering and Adoption Panel, said: “Adoption is an option for many different family make-ups and indeed for single people.
“There’s a myth that there are all sorts of barriers to adoption and this is not the case.
“We aim to make the process as smooth as possible for applicants, with a view to ensuring that children get their loving home as quickly as possible.”
The council are looking for enquiries from single people, couples, families who have children of their own, and same sex couples who have been living together for more than two years.
All applicants must be over 21 years of age and should be able to parent a child until adulthood.
