Milestone anniversary

-

East Kilbride couple Bobby and Anne Turner first met at the ice skating in 1954. but it was almost a year before they really warmed to each other.

After their initial encounter at Crossmyloof Ice Rink in Glasgow they started going out after attending a mutual friend’s 21st birthday party in 1955.

And it was the champagne that was on ice as the happy couple celebrated their diamond wedding anniversary earlier this month.

Bobby and Anne were married on October 6, 1956, at St Paul’s Church of Scotland in Provanmill by the Reverend Russell Anderson.

They set up home in Kitchener Street, Dalmuir, where they lived when only child, son Robin, was born on February 17, 1963.

The family moved to West Mains in June 1966 and they have lived there ever since.

Anne gave up full time work for a number of years after Robin was born before returning to work in a number of retail and hospitality jobs, finishing her career with the Oversees Development Administration (now DFID) at Hairmyres.

Bobby moved jobs initially from William Beardmore to Voith Engineering in Polmadie before finishing his working life with Barr & Stroud in Anniesland.

Robin married Anna Currie in June 1989 and Anne and Bobby became grandparents for the first time in January 1999 when Fraser arrived, followed shortly afterwards in August 2000 by Nicola.

In addition to a lovely family celebration to mark their 60th wedding anniversary, Anne (81) and Bobby (82) were thrilled when Provost Eileen Logan and Deputy Lieutenant Margaret Morton called at their home to offer their heartfelt congratulations.
