28 INVITATION Free jam sessions rocking The Union

Town centre venue for weekly get-togethers

- Mark Pirie

East Kilbride rockers will have the chance to enjoy live music every week with new ‘jam sessions’ in town - and want other musicians to get involved.

Rockers ‘Independence’ who have been together for almost two decades are playing free sessions at The Union in East Kilbride town centre on a weekly basis.

The event is free every Thursday, and anyone who wishes to join in should go along with or without their instruments as the band are fully equipped.

If you want to join in just speak to Paul Ross, the bass player, and he will arrange to have you up.

The group hope to encourage both experienced and new musicians to join in.

A spokesperson for the band told the News they were enjoying life at The Union, having started playing there last month.

He said: “Since Sammy Dows was taken over by Lebowskis the band have been searching for a new venue large enough to support all the musicians. They have recently been at The Shed in Shawlands for six months, which was a fabulous venue and they were grateful to the owners and staff for the opportunity. However, logistics attached to the fact it was on the third floor have caused the need for change of venue.

“The Union is an outstanding venue with a perfect location on the ground floor with ease of access for both bands and supporters with excellent bus links, abundant car parking at the door and taxi services on the doorstep.”
