SCHOOL SCOOPS HONOURS AT GLITTERING BASH
Staff and pupils are rewarded for the amazing achievements
Pupils and staff from Calderglen High School were recognised at the annual East Kilbride and District Crime Prevention Panel Golden Jubilee Awards.
Since its formation, the panel has been involved in numerous projects and events, not least being the introduction of a local community award event some 30 years ago.
This has evolved into the East Kilbride and District Crime Prevention Panel Awards Night and is an eagerly anticipated annual fixture when nominees from within the area are given recognition for their invaluable contributions to the well-being and safety of their communities.
June Watters, depute head teacher at Calderglen was the first teacher ever to win South Lanarkshire’s Silver Salver.
This is awarded to individuals who have performed a service to their community/school in terms of volunteering and fund raising activities.
June received this award for her decade of enlisting the help of groups of pupils and staff twice yearly on Saturday mornings to take part in a clean-up of Calderglen Country Park.
June worked in partnership with East Kilbride Rotary Club on this venture every year for the last 10 years.
She was presented with the award by SLC depute Provost Pam Clearie.
Also, congratulations to Lewis McKay of S4 who received the SLC Silver Salver Award for his considerable fundraising efforts for Breast Cancer awareness and Macmillan Cancer Care.
