Burns club enjoy an entertaining night
The Kilbryde Burns Club kicked off their new session in the pavilion of the Village Bowling Club.
New president, John Mitchell, welcomed a weel kent cronie, John Hutchison to the opening night.
John entertained the company with a variety of Burns’songs, poems and a great deal of background information on the life and times of Burns which led to the creation of these songs and poems.
John also included a couple of quirky poems he had written himself.
The evening was a resounding success and bodes well for the rest of the session. The club also welcomed new members and visitors.
The club meets on the first Monday of each month from October through to April, with the May meeting being an outing to visit places in Scotland with a Burns connection.
The objects of the club are the study, discussion and promotion of the life, poetry, songs and letters of Scotland’s National Bard and allied topics. The club also celebrates the Bard’s birthday each year, with the traditional Burns’Supper.
The next meeting on Monday, November 7, will be an inter-visitation evening, welcoming friends from Burns’clubs throughout Lanarkshire and beyond.
The club will also welcome two students from St Petersburg to display their knowledge in topics connected with Burns and Scotland.
The 2016/17 session promises to deliver an informative and varied syllabus.
All interested in going along to any of the meetings and learning more about our National Bard should contact the secretary, Patricia Leslie, on 01355 235189.
