October Week ScottishPo­wer Renewables, one of the UK’s leading wind energy developers, are inviting families to get along and enjoy a series of special events being hosted by the on-site Rangers and the Whitelee Windfarm Visitor Centre Team during the mid-term school holiday. Events take place on the following dates Wednesday, October 19: Halloween crafts session in making everything from a broomstick to a wand and more; Thursday, October 20 – make your own Recycled Bird Feeders and Birdie Bookmarks, Friday, October 21: it’s all about autumn - make an autumn picture from leaves, or a hedgehog from clay. They also have the RSPB joining them on Saturday, October 22 – build your own land yacht and find out more about the wind and make your own Wind Chimes. Sunday, October 23 is a chance to find out more about insects and attend the Whirlibugs session to make your own dancing creepy crawly. The windfarm has over 80 miles of scenic tracks which are ideal for families. There is a 1.2 mile mountain biking trail along with 3.2 mile, 3.8

mile, 8 mile, 11.1 mile and 22.2 mile tracks for walkers, cyclists and horse riders. Keith Anderson, chief executive of ScottishPo­wer Renewables, said: “With a great range of events set against the stunning backdrop of Whitelee Windfarm, it’s the perfect place to bring your kids to keep them entertaine­d this school break. We’re always blown away by the number of families who visit Whitelee during the school holidays, and we hope that there’s something for everyone in the events we’ve got planned. This year, activities are focused around the environmen­t at Whitelee and the wildlife here, so there’s plenty to keep the family entertaine­d.”

Prayer group The group meets each Sunday at 10.30am in Carswell Centre. Older people’s group The recent Outlook contained a note from Elaine Grogan of East Renfrewshi­re Council about a proposed older people’s group to be run in the Carswell Centre from January. Elaine would like to hear from those interested in assisting this venture and plans to hold a meeting of volunteers in November. Foodbank Organisers thanked ev10

eryone who contribute­d to the 30kg of food delivered to the Barrhead collection point from the Eaglesham Parish Church. A letter was received by Wendy, the session clerk, from the East Renfrewshi­re Foodbank management team, thanking the church for “steadfast support over the last three years.” Sixty-four tonnes have been distribute­d in 3467 packages and a third of the weight was donated by the 20 churches who are involved in East Renfrewshi­re.

DNA group DNA groups are due to start again, running from the week beginning October 23. We will be looking at Paul’s letter to the Ephesians.
