The Friends of Strathaven Park are celebrating another year of success after the park was named best in Scotland.
The Avondale park was voted in as the country’s top park as part of the Green Flag Awards, receiving the people’s choice award last week.
The park is now also listed as one of the best in the UK as it features in the top ten in a nationwide poll of the country’s best green spaces.
This is the third time in four years it has been named as the best Scottish park, beating thousands of entrants from across the UK.
Bob Wellcoat, from the Friends of Strathaven Park, thanked everyone for their support after they received their new plaque to mark the win.
“This year Keep Britain Tidy did things a little different and instead of ranking the winners it was just a pool consisting of the top ten and gave each of them an award plaque,” Bob told the News.
“My congratulations to Peter Headley and Matthew Burns plus all of the Strathaven Parks management team on this welldeserved award.
“They have a very good workforce in the park that is dedicated to keeping it in tiptop condition for the people of Strathaven to enjoy.
“It was my pleasure to be part of a group of people that helped bring the first Green Flag to this beautiful park.
“Since then I have seen many wonderful changes in the park.
“The friends and people of Strathaven and beyond have voted and thank you to them all.
“We have come first in Scotland and Strathaven was the only Scottish park to be listed in the top 10 in the UK.
“I thank the voters from South Lanarkshire and beyond for voting for my and their favourite park.”
