Under-18s beat Dalziel to hit summit

-

EK’s under-18s moved top of the league with an ultimately comprehensive victory over Dalziel at Torrance House.

The hosts failed to engage their brains during the first period, choosing to engage a huge Dalziel pack in an armwrestle and only EK captain Harry Taggart’s try separated the sides at the break.

The second half saw a more confident showing by EK as they began to spread play and stretch a tiring Dalziel forward unit. Sam Hume crossed first and, scrum-half Sam Connery grabbed the next before Ethan Aitken ran in two more to leave EK comfortably ahead at the final whistle.

If Dalziel’s under-18s were big then their under-16 counterparts were not any smaller as they battered an under-strength EK in the first quarter, running in four unanswered tries.

EK upped their game toward the end of the first half and tries from Matthew Bell and flyer Callum Wright brought them right back into the game. The intensity of the contest eventually took its toll and at no point in the second half did EK have 15 fit bodies afield, allowing Dalziel to run in a further three tries.

Finally, the under-13s were the only other side to get a competitive run out, again with Dalziel the opposition.

It was the Motherwell side who opened the scoring in the early exchanges, before Callum Ferrie brought the scores level.

A second try for Ferrie, running from his own half, put EK ahead before Jamie McCallum extended the lead.

Great handling from Adam Ross, Evan Hughes and Ruaridh Patrick then allowed Ferrie to complete his hat-trick and secure the victory.
