Dr Meggs’s family hail community

£1150 raised at funeral service

The family of Dr Anne Meggs have thanked the community of East Kilbride after a massive £1150 was raised at her funeral.

More than 300 mourners turned out to pay their respects to the hugely popular Alison Lea Medical Centre GP who was laid to rest at South Lanarkshir­e Crematoriu­m last Wednesday.

The funds collected in memory of the caring Clarkston mum-of-two will go directly to Cancer Research UK.

Anne lost her 18-month battle with esophageal cancer at Hairmyres Hospital on November 1, aged 60.

She is survived by her husband Colin, 63, and sons Callum, 30, and Christophe­r, 28.

Last week, Colin paid a touching tribute to his beloved wife in the News describing her as the light of his life and “a beacon to others”.

He said: “I’d like to thank all those who officiated on Anne’s day, all those who attended or sent condolence­s and particular­ly those who dug deep to raise such a substantia­l contributi­on to Cancer Research. She would have approved!” Hundreds of heartwarmi­ng tributes have been pouring in for the much-loved and well respected doctor who treated generation­s of families in East Kilbride over her 32 years at the Calderwood practice. Katie Kelly said: “Such a sad loss of an absolute delightful lady. My GP for the past 22 years and what a wonderful person she was, she really did take the time to help and advise people. Helped my family through so much you will be greatly missed by us all DrAnne Meggs rest peacefully.” Margaret Sprott wrote: “So very sad Dr Meggs was a wonderful doctor always had time to listen to her patients, my thoughts go out to her family and friends, Alison Lea will never be the same without her.” Jacqueline Ogilvie posted: “They don’t make doctors like Dr Meggs any more. A great loss to her family and to the many patients she treated with such compassion. You will be sorely missed Anne.”
