who source recycled building materials and have good links with East Kilbride.

“This is a fantastic organisation whose profits go to their Active4all initiative which helps disadvantaged and vulnerable people in Lanarkshire engage in activities, whether it be sporting or in their workshop.

“They will create the house. The whole collaboration has been fantastic.”

The eco-house will also assist with the school curriculum when the children learn about enterprise and the environment in primary five and six.

Julia added: “The children will run the whole project — the amount of learning they will get from this will be phenomenal.”

Children in P5 were tasked with designing their ideas of what the eco-house should look like.

The winning entries were selected by MSPs Fabiani and Simpson, and Yooz’s Cameron Bauer, who were judges.

A combination of three designs by Marc O’Brien, Anna McPherson and Saul Murray were decided upon as the children had excellent ideas for each one.

Now Cameron will come up with a viable design which can be created using recycled building materials.

East Kilbride MSP Ms Fabiani said: “I really enjoyed helping with judging the class’s eco house designs, and it was so difficult to choose the winners. The pupils obviously understood what was required — there were plans to use solar, recycling, groundwater, rainwater and roof planting.

“Great imagination in how the houses could fit with the environment and encourage local wildlife. Truly impressive — budding architects and environmentalists!”

Mr Simpson, Tory MSP for Central Scotland, said: “This is a fantastic project. It was great to be able to judge the entries from the children which were all of a very high standard.

“We chose three and ideas from all three will go to shape the final design.

“I wish the school well in their efforts to raise the money for it. To that end I have asked South Lanarkshire Council to assist in identifying sources of money.”

With the school’s project up against 80 other bids from across the UK, the parent council is appealing to the people of East Kilbride to vote for them.
