Get moving at the gym in Movember

Xercise4Less teams up with men’s charity

- Andrea O’Neill

An East Kilbride gym is helping to raise awareness of men’s health by taking part in Movember.

As well as growing a moustache, Xercise4Less are encouraging gym members to ‘Move for Movember’ by participating in fitness classes each weekend in November.

The move challenge is whatever members want to make it – whether it be running a race, learning to rock climb, working out in costume or beating your own personal best.

As part of the partnership, Xercise4Less will be donating £1 for each new member that joins any of their 43 gyms throughout the month of November.

There will also be a prize for the best moustache.

Entrants can use the hashtag #MrMovemberX4L to be in with a chance of winning.

On Monday, there will be a threehour MoRun in the gym, with a Movember Cup being awarded for the most miles run in the three hours.

The participants of the club who run the most miles will go in to a prize draw to win a prize fitness bundle donated from Movember.

Saturday, November 26, will see Xercise4Less’s popular Xercise4Kids class turned into a MoKids class where parents with children aged between three and five will be provided with a stick on ‘Mo’ for their little ones to join in the fun.

Sean Townsley, general manager at Xercise4Less East Kilbride, said: “We’re challenging everyone to get up and do something for men’s health this Movember.

“I’m looking forward to seeing lots of Mo Bros and Mo Sistas around the club! It’s a hugely worthwhile cause, so let’s really get behind it.”

On average, men die four years younger than women in the UK – for reasons that are largely preventable.

More than 10,500 men with prostate cancer will die in the UK in 2016.

And tragically, 13 men take their own life in this country every day, with 78 per cent of suicides committed by men.

The Movember Foundation is the only global charity solely focused on men’s health and raises funds to deliver innovative, breakthrough research and support programmes that enable men to live happier, healthier and longer lives.

Laura Mair, director of Partnerships at The Movember Foundation, added: “We’re excited about working with Xercise4Less and getting people moving for men’s health around the country.

“Our goal is to stop men dying too young, and in order to achieve this we need more men aware of the risks that they face and to take action when there’s an issue.”
