After the disappointment of a 4-1 Scottish Youth Cup defeat to Partick Thistle last week, East Kilbride’s under-20s bounced back in style with a thumping win over Cumbernauld Colts on Friday night.

A double from skipper Liam Craig, and strikes from James Cassidy and Jack Harrison gave Kilby a richly deserved three-points at Broadwood.

EK dominated from the outset, with Gavin Millar striking the post on 15 minutes, but it did not take long for Kilby to take the lead.

They went ahead midway through the first half when Liam Craig converted from close range, having struck the woodwork twice in the goalmouth scramble.

Despite playing some excellent attacking football, EK could not add to the lead and half-time arrived with the visitors just 1-0 to the good.

Michael Anderson, Scott Brodie and Craig all passed up chances early in the second half before Kilby eventually doubled their lead 15 minutes from time.

A a pin-point Lee Davidson cross was headed down by Craig into the path of James Cassidy, who capped a fine display by slamming home from six-yards.

Now high in confidence, free-flowing EK forced a succession of corners, with a right wing centre from Liam Craig being bulleted home by the head of ex-St Mirren defender Jack Harrison to claim his first Kilby goal.

Substitute Scott Moore was terrorising the Colts back line with his pace in the closing stages, and his fine solo run was ended five minutes from time by a foul in the box.

Craig made no mistake from the spot to complete the scoring on a night Lewis Doherty was outstanding in midfield for EK.

Kilby will now look to reclaim top spot in the U-20 League this Friday, when University of Stirling visit K-Park. Kick-off is 8pm.
