Jags will take on Kilby for charity

-

The town’s two big football teams will join forces later this month for a special Movember friendly match to raise awareness of men’s health issues.

Junior side East Kilbride Thistle and Lowland League leaders East Kilbride FC will play in the charity game at K-Park on Wednesday, November 30.

It will be the first time the Jags and Kilby, founded in 1968 and 2010, respectively, have faced each other.

The event has been organised in conjunction with Nuffield Health, who sponsor both clubs by allowing first team players to use their facilities free of charge.

Nuffield have a host of events planned during Movember, an annual event involving the growing of a moustache, and the Jags and Kilby are happy to help raise awareness.

Thistle chairman Peter Kellsall said: “We have had a great relationship with East Kilbride FC for a number of years and we got together with Nuffield to see if we could have a friendly match to raise funds for men’s health issues, like prostate cancer and testicular cancer, among many others.

“We thought a match between the two big clubs in EK would do just that.

“We are looking for a good turnout. It’s for a really good cause and it adds a bit of spice that we are playing EKFC.

“It’s time East Kilbride had this sort of big game attraction.”

Kilby chairman Mark Horner said: “It’s all for a great cause and I know lots of guys at the club are growing moustaches as well as supporting the event.

“It will be a great occasion to see the two teams play each other and I’m sure Thistle will want to get one over on us.”

The match will have an 8.15pm kick-off and entry will be by donation.
