Ladies lose to Hillhead
It was a frustrating afternoon for East Kilbride Ladies first XI on Saturday as they saw three points slip to Hillhead II in a game they should at least have drawn.
EK also had two goals disallowed, which only added to their woes.
Keeper Mairi MacDonald and her defence had a trying time and, despite a couple of good saves, Hillhead broke the deadlock halfway through the half.
It was a wake up call for EK, who seemed to improve as they went for the equaliser. A great team move from the back, up the left wing and in to youngster Iona MacDonald, ended with a goal from Sheona Hutchison.
Sony a Andrews looked to have scored with a strike from a short corner, but it was deemed to have gone in too high.
At 1-1 at half time there was all to play for and EK were better in the second 35, forcing the Hillhead stopper in to some outstanding saves.
But it was the home side who scored from a short corner to move 2-1 ahead.
EK responded well and thought they had equalised with a well-worked short corner, which Sheona Hutchison put away after a lovely one-two. But the umpire again chalked it off, saying the ball had not left the semi-circle.
This disappointing afternoon was followed by another on Sunday when the team were dumped out of the Scottish Cup quarter-final, losing 4-1 to Shetland.
The second string were also beaten, with a 2-0 loss at home to Broomhill.
