EK date for Fleur East

- Andrea O’Neill

East Kilbride Shopping Centre will have the X Factor this weekend when stars Fleur East and Sam Lavery join a star-studded bill at the new leisure hub.

As work at the multi-million pound attraction nears completion, EK shoppers are being given a sneak peak at the new facilities and will be treated to top-class entertainment at a three-day party from this Friday through to Sunday.

The launch party for The Hub has been given an extra boost with news that pop singer Fleur East, Glasgow boy band Single by Sunday and X Factor star Sam Lavery will perform on Sunday.

The jam-packed weekend of free entertainment kicks off on Friday when DJ George Bowie arrives at EK for a GBX ice disco. The two-hour fullycharged ‘Bowie on Ice’ set kicks off at 7pm.

The party continues on Saturday with pop rock band Scouting for Girls, rising stars from Motherwell, The La Fontaines, and Glasgow’s November Lights taking to the stage in The Hub from 6pm to 9pm.

Throughout the weekend there will be face painting, magicians and jugglers walking the centre – while Clyde 1 offers shoppers opportunities to win top prizes.

Live music starts to fill The Hub on Sunday from 2pm until 7pm when the weekend party will be rounded off with performances by Fleur East, Single by Sunday and Sam Lavery.

Centre director Ian McLelland said: “The weekend is shaping up to be quite a party with a host of top bands lined up to perform at The Hub, EK.

“While there are still finishing touches to complete, we have ensured there will be plenty of additional entertainment on offer for young and old over the party weekend.”

The Hub at EK is a new 70,000 sq ft family-focused leisure destination at Scotland’s largest undercover shopping centre. The new development offers a range of entertainment options, including eight new restaurants and cafes, a threestorey climbing wall, Hi-Ride aerial adventure course and soft play, alongside the centre’s refurbished ice rink and existing Odeon Cinema.

The list of restaurants opening their doors at EK will include Frankie & Benny’s, Chiquito, Pizza Express, Handmade Burger Co and Filling Station, with Bella Italia and Nandos scheduled to open over the next few weeks.

Although entrance to The Hub at EK is free over the party weekend, those wanting VIP entry to the ice rink/event arena will require a wristband which will be on a first come, first served basis.
