Our tears for little ‘princess’ Cassidy

Heartbroken mum’s tribute

- Mark Pirie

The family of tragic Cassidy McCrone have paid tribute to their “princess” after she lost her brave battle for life.

Mum Natalie spoke in glowing terms about her one-year-old daughter — who had been battling rare form of dwarfism rhizomelic chondrodysplasia punctata (RCDP) — passed away last Thursday.

Earlier this year, the St Leonards family raised an incredible £30,000 through the ‘Cassidy’s journey’ fundraiser to send the youngster to the USA for clinical trials.

However, they had been on hold for the youngster while the American company underwent restructuring.

Her family had received an e-mail updating them on the

trial just four days before the youngster passed away in her sleep after contracting a cold.

Cassidy had just been put to bed when the family realised she had stopped breathing.

Dad Chris performed CPR straight away before she was rushed to hospital — but it was too late.

Natalie said the whole family, including Cassidy’s sister Brooklyn and brother Dexter, were all in shock, but wanted to celebrate the big impact their daughter made in her short life.

“She had the biggest personality from just her smile and her eyes,” said Natalie. “But she could also be a total diva. “Me and Chris would always joke that it’s Cassidy’s way or no way. She was our little princess — she was always so full of life and such a happy wee soul.”

Cassidy will be laid to rest next week at a princess-themed funeral to celebrate her life.

She will be taken to the venue in a Cinderella–styled carriage and her big brother and sister have given the coffin a unique design with Disney princesses, Peppa Pig, and the words ‘Cassidy’s journey’ on the outside.

“We see it as going to her own ball,” Natalie added. “We want it to be a happy, magical experience for her.

“It’s of great comfort to us to that she managed to do so much for RCDP awareness and that is something she will always be remembered for.

“She was a popular wee girl and we want it to be a big celebration of her life. “We think that would be a fitting end to her journey.” Natalie has welcomed the public, who want to attend the funeral, to the Linn Crematorium in Glasgow on Monday.

Cassidy’s carriage is expected to arrive at around 11.45am.
