Genuine officers will be in full uniform
Last week we received another report of persons impersonating police officers in East Kilbride.
The suspect male is described as white, 5ft 8in in height and of medium build with a scruffy appearance.
I want to reassure the public that my officers are carrying out extra patrols within the area and that we have dedicated officers looking into this incident who are working hard to identify the males involved.
If you are requested to stop by an unmarked police vehicle and you are unsure or suspicious of the vehicle please drive in a conscious manner to a well-lit public place such as a petrol station or supermarket carpark or directly to your nearest police station.
Always try to signal and acknowledge the request to stop and indicate clearly the action that you are taking and continue to drive safely.
Please do not panic and do not drive at speed. In an emergency it is appropriate to use your mobile phone to contact 999 whilst your motor vehicle engine is running, however, this should only been carried out in emergency circumstances and you must ensure that you are not putting other drivers or pedestrians at risk.
Please note that genuine police officers will be in full uniform. All officers carry a warrant card with their photograph and details on it. If you have any doubt about their authenticity take a note of their details and contact your local police office through 101.
I would urge anyone with information that may assist our investigation to identify these males to contact Airdrie Police Office through 101. Alternatively, please contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
