Better broadband

-

Jackton and Thorntonhall Community Council have asked the public for support as they aim to improve broadband in the area.

The group hope to increase sign-ups for the Virgin Media broadband service in order to encourage the company to provide more infrastructure.

Agness Nairn from the council hopes that people will back them, describing it as issue that affects“all of Thorntonhall”.

She told the News:“I want to draw people’s attention to broadband, or lack of, in the area.

“Virgin Media have the capability of putting in the infrastructure in Thorntonhall. However, like BT, they are keen to understand potential demand.

“First step is to register with Virgin Media and, if you can, confirm to me once you have registered, even if you have so previously. I will work with Virgin Media to try and escalate our case.

“Please share details with neighbours and friends. The more registrations we can generate, the more compelling will be our case for the village.”

East Kilbride West councillor Graham Simpson backed the move, describing services in the area as“patchy”.

He continued:“Some parts of Stewartfield, including my street, have high-speed coverage but others don’t.

“A lot of it doesn’t make sense to people and they are very frustrated.”

A Virgin Media spokesperson was positive about the prospect of adding to their network.
