Hardslog forEK’s juniors

-

With the senior sides rained off on Saturday, East Kilbride Rugby Club’s junior section took centre stage – but the results were not what they would have hoped for.

East Kilbride S1’s played some good rugby but failed to do so for anything beyond short periods and in the end surrendered the initiative to an assured Dalziel.

Callum Ferrie’s hat-trick and the impressive goalkicking of Adam Ross were highlights, whilst there was an assured debut from new recruit Simon Clark.

The Primary 7’s headed to Marr and were edged out 6-5, with EK tries going to Liam Kenny, Callum McKinnon, Moray Blackwood, Matthew Wilson and the Galganis’s, Luca and Leone.

The P6’s also slumped to defeat with Marr winning fairly comfortably. Michael White picked up EK’s only try of the day but strong tackling from Callum Russell, Khalil Mohammed, Cruz Wilson and Rory Andrews kept the scoreline respectable.

The P5’s continued the club’s underwhelming Sunday when they went down to both Marr and Birkmyre.

The main shafts of light on the day came from the youngest units, including the P3 squad, who continued their season long unbeaten run by beating Marr 16-8.

Zach McQueen accounted for almost half the scores but it was by no means a oneman show. In addition to grabbing two tries of his own, Steven Orr was outstanding defensively while Jaiden Grimley was a physical force.

Other tries went to Finlay McKinnon (3), Jack Reddick, Scott Brown and Lewis Clark.

Finally, the P1/2 squad also came out on top as Max McQueen top scored with five. Captain George Hughes and Andrew Kinchington also crossed to complete the win.
