Gillreelsin prizedouble
Gill Farid celebrated an awards double at East Kilbride Angling Club’s annual prizegiving recently.
Paired with the club’s annual general meeting, the evening recognised the big winners at EKAC during 2016.
Club secretary Jim Gormley did the honours at the trophy presentation with Farid taking home the senior fly championship trophy and the heaviest fish on a fly outing prize.
The senior fly championship went down to the wire at the last outing on the Lake of Menteith. It could have gone to any of three anglers but at the end of the day Farid did enough to claim top spot.
He also received the Memorial Shield for the heaviest fish on a Fly outing, a lovely Brownie of 3lb12oz from Loch Leven – the second year in a row the heaviest fish has come from Leven.
Meanwhile, the Calder Shield went to Przemek Cwiertka and the Top Rod prize was won by Willie Winning.
Jim Mckinlay, who finished runner-up in the fly championship for th second year running, lifted the Lightbody Cup and the Senior Any Method Shield.
Before the prizegiving the election of Committee members and the announcement of the 2017 outings also took place.
Next years Fly outing venues are as follows: Lower Frandy, Harelaw, Glencorse, Carron Valley and Lintrathen, plus the usual two visits to the Lake of Menteith.
The Any Method outings will be to the River Tay and Loch Bradan. All dates are still to be confirmed.
