We’re determined not to be another Kilby shock victim

-

Stranraer boss Brian Reid hopes East Kilbride have had their Scottish Cup shock this season as he bids to lead his Blues into the fourth round.

Ten-man Kilby stunned League Two side Cowdenbeath in the last round, claiming a 1-0 win at Central Park, and they will have to defy the odds again on Saturday.

League One Stranraer are the favourites to progress to the last 32 but Reid is wary of the threats Kilby will pose.

The former Ayr United gaffer has never suffered a Scottish Cup shock in his managerial career and is determined not to break that habit against East Kilbride.

He told the News: “Central Park is a difficult place to go and beating Cowdenbeath was a great result for them, so I hope they’ve had their cup shock.

“I’ve not been on the end of one before as a manager and I don’t want to start now.

“But I had this type of game before when I was at Ayr and we

played lower league sides like Lochee United and Sunnybank – it’s a cup final for them. “And it will be the same for EK. “We will need to be on our guard and treat the game in the right manner. We should be the favourites being at home and playing in a higher league.

“But if you are lax at any level you can get found out.

“We won’t take EK lightly.” Stranraer go into the tie on a high after Saturday’s 3-1 win over Stenhousemuir provided their first victory in five games.

Reid added: “We’ve been struggling a bit recently.

“We went into a wee dip with a bit of inconsistency and a lack of confidence but I think Saturday’s win will get us back on track.”
