Taekwondo champions:
Four golds, two silver and four bronze for club
Taekwondo athletes from Master Hutton Fitness were celebrating last week after taking home 10 medals from the annual MSBA Open Championships.
The tournament, held at Ravenscraig last weekend, gave the students an opportunity to compete at a very high level and they did not disappoint with a strong showing.
A total of 23 taekwondo schools from throughout Scotland and several teams from Ireland and England competed at Master Sutherland’s tournament, which is now in its 16th year.
Master Hutton Fitness students finished a respectable seventh overall with a medal tally of four gold, two silver and four bronze awards being achieved.
Fourteen of Master Hutton’s students were competing for the very first time at a top event and were led by one of the club’s top junior European competitors, Jack Lobban, and senior student Sharon Kennedy.
Master Hutton, who attended the event himself, was extremely proud of his athletes’ performances.
He said: “I’m delighted by the efforts of all the clubs students who competed and I’m particularly pleased for the club’s 14 novice athletes.
“They all gave a fantastic account of themselves at this high level tournament.
“With hundreds of competitors and up to four different events taking place simultaneously, it is never easy to coach the students and both Jack and Sharon did a fantastic job.
“I’d also like to thank everyone at the club for giving up their time to help the youngsters.”
The Master Hutton medal winners on the day were as follows:
Hannah McMahon – won gold in sparring
Alex Campbell – won gold in sparring ; bronze in pattern
Reece Stirling – won gold in sparring
Ronin Hutton – won gold in pattern; bronze in sparring
Abigail Stirling – won silver in sparring
Ben Cohan – won silver in special technique Alex Hoblak – won bronze in sparring Liam McManus – won bronze in sparring.
