Club hit funding target

-

East Kilbride Archery Club are on target for a successful year after being awarded a grant of almost £10,000 from the Big Lottery Fund.

Dormant for a number of years, East Kilbride Archery Club has been resurrected thanks to an enthusiastic bunch of experienced archers.

They are delighted to announce that they are about to embark on a project, thanks to funding from the Big Lottery Fund, to encourage people to‘Get Into Archery’.

The £9500 grant from the Big Lottery Fund (Awards for All Scotland) will enable the club to buy much needed equipment and provide coaches to help it bring archery to the local communities in East Kilbride and nearby Newton Mearns.

EKAC has secured an indoor venue in Eastwood High Sports Centre, Newton Mearns and is now looking for an outdoor venue in East Kilbride.

They will require a piece of land at least 125 metres in length and 50 metres wide. The outdoor archery season runs from the beginning of April until the end of August.

East Kilbride Archery Club secretary, Alison Ross, said:“We are very excited to have received the funding from Awards for All Scotland.

“Archery is a fun, rewarding, inclusive and social sport, attracting seniors, juniors, young and old, and those with disabilities, all shooting together.

“Hopefully we will find a venue in EK soon. Scottish Archery will need to complete a full risk assessment before any archery can take place, though.”

The funding will also help the club to encourage people to have a go at archery as they hope to organise a number of‘Come and Try’events, beginner’s courses (in conjunction with MRM Archery Ltd) and Soft Archery sessions with primary school children.

East Kilbride Archery Club shoots at Eastwood High Sports Centre on Sunday afternoons from 1pm to 4pm.
