Top ten finishes at British championships
Youngsters from East Kilbride Ice Figure Skating Club (EKIFSC) mixed it with the best in Britain last week, returning home with a series of top ten placings.
At the British Championships in Sheffield EKIFSC had four skaters competing the Basic Novice A Category (up to age 13 years) – Cara McCabe, Taylor McLeod, Rebecca Geddes and Sarah Tunnicliffe.
All four produced brilliant performances, with Cara placing fifth, Rebecca in seventh, Taylor in 10th place and Sara – just nine years old and competing in her very first championships – finishing in 37th place.
In the Basic Novice B Category (age 13-15 years), Holly Freeman competed against 36 other skaters and she gave a very strong performance.
Holly finished in sixth place in a very tightly fought contest after working hard to get back to fitness for the championships following an injury.
Like Holly, Abigail Stewart was also lucky enough to receive an invitation to compete due to her performances during the year. Abigail finished in 20th Place.
In the Junior Ladies Category Ania Weglicka finished in 17th place out of a group of 24 with a total score of 87.62.
Finally, in the advanced Novice category, the 2015/16 basic novice ‘A’ champion Christie Anne Shannon finished fourth in the short programme, and fifth in the free programme. This left her with a final placing of fifth out of 14.
Senior men’s competitor Jamie Wright had to withdraw due to injury.
Coach Yvonne Cameron said: “We were extremely proud of everyone’s placing, and although there were no medals this year, to have so many top 10 placings when we’ve been ‘homeless’ for the whole year, is a massive achievement.
“The girls gave really solid performances and can’t wait to go back stronger next year.”
