Crowd welcomes festive procession
Thousands of people turned out for Strathaven’s Reindeer Day festivities.
Sunday’s event drew the crowds despite the cold weather.
Santa Claus himself paraded through the town to the delight of wide-eyed kids.
Thousands turned out to see Santa and his reindeer sweep into Strathaven for the town’s annual Reindeer Day.
Children were able to visit Santa’s Grotto in the Allison Green on Sunday and had the opportunity to get close to Rudolph and his reindeer friends.
There was also a mix of market stalls selling Christmas treats as well as some fun rides for the kids.
The sounds of Strathaven’s own community jazz band were heard through the town as they performed at the Waterside in Allison Green.
Father Christmas also travelled through the streets of Strathaven with a wonderful reindeer parade round the Common Green.
Later in the day, there was another chance to get into the festive spirit as the Strathaven Choral Society held their Christmas concert in Strathaven Scout and Guide Hall with Coalburn Silver Brass Band, to celebrate Reindeer Day.
Roger Lee, of Adam’s Community Trust (ACT), estimates that thousands of people turned out on a cold winter’s day to enjoy the festivities.
He said: “ACT and the small organising team were delighted that the day went so well and the weather was kind at the key time.
“The Cairngorm reindeer were lovely as ever and the choir was the best we have had which added to the anticipation of Santa’s arrival on his sleigh.
“The Reindeer Day team would like to thank everyone that gave their time freely to help make this magical event possible and, of course, to the wonderful support and donations from the thousands in the crowd that turned out.”
