YM party spirit is knocked

-

Milngavie Wanderers dampened East Kilbride YM’s Christmas night out with a 4-1 victory on Saturday.

YM ended the year on a low after a disappointing performance and result saw them eliminated from the West of Scotland Cup.

Goalkeeper Fraser Campbell and midfielders Scott Chaplain and Stewart Bovill were missing from YM’s line-up but the visitors were on top early on.

Milngavie had to defend in numbers but poor finishing and some desperate defending kept the score sheet blank.

However, a needlessly conceeded free-kick out on the right brought Milngavie the opener. As the ball was floated into the box, a Milngavie forward hit the post with a header after appearing to push a YM defender and his strike partner scored the rebound.

Aggrieved by this, YM went forward with renewed spirit and pinned Milngavie back once again but failed to find the target. And the hosts caught YM out on the counter attack to take a 2-0 half-time lead.

Moments into the second half, Milngavie added a third goal to deflate YM and before they added their final goal of the game, Ross McDonagh scored YM’s consolation from the penalty spot ahead of the team party.

Meanwhile, YM’s GGPL side had a thumping 7-0 win away to Westerlands. Scott Campbell (3), Lee Alexander, Mike Carroll,David Hamilton and Graeme Robertson Jnr were all on target.
