So what are your wishes for the new year ahead?

EK News asks for shoppers’ hopes in 2017

- Nicola Findlay

With the excesses of Christmas behind us and 2017 fast approaching, many folk may be thinking about the year ahead and those New Year resolutions.

Whether it is joining the gym, a career change or just wishing for a healthy and happy 2017, the News took to East Kilbride town centre to speak to shoppers.

Ian Connor said: “All I wish for is for my family to be healthy.

“I have a new little grandson who was born a few months premature so what I really want is for him to thrive after a tough start.”

Meanwhile, his mum, Janette, is also thinking about family in the year ahead.

“I just want my family to be happy more than anything else — I think that is the best thing anyone could ever hope for,” she said.

However, Hugh Logan, from Greenhills, has decided against a New Year’s resolution.

“To be honest I don’t bother with them as I never stick to them — I don’t think anyone does,” he told the News.

And East Kilbride shopper, Marie McArdle, who was grabbing a last few bits and bobs with grandson Daniel Grant, has similar feelings.

“If I am being honest I don’t stick to them although I have been saying for the last few years I will go swimming more and maybe do a wee bit more exercise, but we will see what happens,” she said.
